Beginning, Middle, and End

Important events happen in an order. That order helps a story make sense.

Sequence clues

Ask three questions

What happened first?
The beginning introduces the character, place, or event that starts the story.
What happened next?
The middle shows important actions and changes.
What happened last?
The end shows how the events finish.

Story example

Nora's sunflower

Nora planted a sunflower seed beside the fence. Each morning, she watered the soil and checked for changes. One day, a green sprout pushed up into the sunlight.
