The big idea
Temperature can change the state of water
Ice is solid water and keeps its own shape. Liquid water flows and takes the shape of its container. Heating and cooling can change one state into the other.

- Step 1 An ice cube is a solid with a fixed shape.
- Step 2 In a warmer place, it absorbs energy and melts into liquid water.
- Step 3 The liquid can be poured and takes the shape of a new container.
- Step 4 In a freezer, it loses energy and becomes solid ice again.
