Grade 5 · Composition: Expressing Ideas and Creating Texts · Research and Organize
Build a Research Plan
Research is not copying facts. It is a deliberate process of asking, checking, recording, and organizing information for readers.
The big idea
Purpose determines which information belongs
A question such as 'How can our school reduce food waste?' guides the sources, notes, categories, and final text form a writer chooses.
Work it through
Move from question to organized notes
- 1. Name the audience and what they need to understand.
- 2. Gather information from multiple textual sources.
- 3. Check author, date, evidence, and purpose using simple reliability criteria.
- 4. Record the creator and source, then group notes by subtopic instead of by website.
