Body systems form an interconnected network
The respiratory system exchanges gases with the environment while the circulatory system transports those gases between the lungs and body cells.

Follow one breath
- Step 1 Air enters through the nose or mouth and travels through airways toward the lungs.
- Step 2 In the lungs, oxygen moves into the blood while carbon dioxide moves out of the blood.
- Step 3 The heart pumps oxygen-rich blood through vessels to cells throughout the body.
- Step 4 Blood carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs, where it leaves the body during exhalation.
