Represent a Linear Relationship

A linear pattern changes by a constant amount and appears as a straight line when its ordered pairs are graphed.

The big idea

A linear rule combines rate and starting value

The rule y = 4x + 3 has a constant rate of 4 and an initial value of 3. Each increase of 1 in x adds 4 to y.
