Independent events do not change one another's probabilities. A complete sample space makes every combined outcome visible.

Theory predicts; experiments provide evidence
Flipping a coin and rolling a six-sided die creates 12 equally likely combined outcomes. Two include heads and a number greater than 4.
Work it through
Find P(heads and a number greater than 4)
- 1. List 2 coin outcomes and 6 die outcomes: 2 × 6 = 12 combinations.
- 2. Favourable outcomes are H5 and H6: 2 combinations.
- 3. Probability = 2/12 = 1/6 ≈ 0.167 = 16.7%.
- 4. Run trials and compare the experimental result with 1/6.
