The big idea
Equivalent forms preserve the same quantity
The fraction 3/8 equals 0.375 because 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375. Multiplying by 100 shows the same amount as 37.5%.

Compare 0.375, 38%, and 3/8
- 1. Convert 3/8 to a decimal: 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375.
- 2. Convert 38% to a decimal: 38 ÷ 100 = 0.38.
- 3. Compare thousandths: 0.380 is greater than 0.375.
- 4. Therefore 38% is slightly greater than 3/8.
