Flight changes when the force relationships change
Balanced vertical and horizontal forces support steady, constant-velocity flight. Changing wing shape, angle, speed, or power alters one or more forces and changes the motion.

Explain an aircraft taking off
- Step 1 The engine or propeller provides thrust that moves the aircraft forward against drag.
- Step 2 Moving air and the wing's shape and angle contribute to an upward lift force.
- Step 3 When lift becomes greater than weight, the vertical forces are unbalanced and the aircraft accelerates upward.
- Step 4 The pilot adjusts power and control surfaces to manage lift, drag, thrust, and direction during the climb.
