Go on a Sound Hunt
Words are full of sounds. We can listen closely, find a beginning sound, and match it to a letter.
Keep it simple
What you need
- A few familiar objects
- Paper
- A crayon or marker
Play and explore
Try it together
- 1 Choose a sound, such as /m/, and say it slowly together.
- 2 Look around for objects whose names begin with that sound.
- 3 Say each object name and stretch its beginning sound.
- 4 Write the matching uppercase and lowercase letter, then draw one object beside it.
Follow the child’s thinking
Talk about it
- What sound do you hear at the beginning?
- Can you think of another word that starts the same way?
- Which letter represents that sound?
