Take Turns Together
Playing together can bring different ideas and strong feelings. We can notice those feelings and use a fair plan.
Keep it simple
What you need
- One favourite toy or shared material
- A timer, song, or turn card
Play and explore
Try it together
- 1 Name how each person might feel when both want the same material.
- 2 Choose a fair turn-taking signal, such as a short song or turn card.
- 3 Practise asking for a turn and responding kindly.
- 4 After both turns, decide whether the plan worked or needs a change.
Follow the child’s thinking
Talk about it
- How can you tell what someone else may be feeling?
- What words can you use to ask for a turn?
- What could you try if the first plan does not feel fair?
